Abstract
Today, the advancement of modern communication technologies has transformed the patterns and modes of citizens' political behavior across various societies.Political participation and voting behavior—key manifestations of political conduct—have been influenced by social networks;the widespread use of platforms such as Instagram and Telegram has played a role in shaping attitudes and influencing the electoral decisions of citizens, particularly the youth. Accordingly, the present study seeks to answer the question: What is the relationship between the use of Instagram and Telegram and the level of political participation in the 2024 presidential election among young people aged 18 to 38 in Tehran? This study employs a survey method and utilizes a researcher-made questionnaire for data collection. The sample consists of 410 young people aged 18 to 38 residing in Tehran. The findings indicated no statistically significant relationship between the extent of Telegram usage and political participation (-0.042). Furthermore, no significant relationship was found between youth political participation and the type of political use of Telegram (0.033), political awareness gained (-0.057), trust in its political content (0.024), or the level of influence exerted by its content (-0.013) Conversely, all Instagram-related variables—namely usage level (-0.369), political usage type (-0.206), political awareness (-0.271), trust in its content (-0.414), and influence derived from the platform (-0.730)—exhibited a significant negative relationship with political participation. However, the survey-based, cross-sectional nature of the study does not allow for the inference of a causal relationship
